Disadvantages of Essay Test

  • Limited content sampling: This indicates that just a few questions can be included in a particular exam. For example, if a book contains 18 chapters, the teacher cannot ask questions from all of them. They must overlook some places.
  • Subjectivity in scoring: If all students write an identical response to the same question, why do they receive different grades? Different teachers rate question answers differently in essay tests. Even the same teacher might provide different answers at various times.
  • Halo effects: This indicates that the teacher is familiar with the student and has a favourable view of him based on his prior papers and writing abilities.
  • Examiner’s mood: The general feeling of all students after writing your S.S.C board paper on what you talked about with your friends. I hope the instructor who is examining my work hasn’t gotten into a fight with anyone.
  • Question phrasing ambiguity: Sometimes essay questions are framed in such a way that students are unsure of the full implications of the questions.
