Disadvantages of Essay Test

Limited content sampling: This indicates that just a few questions can be included in a particular exam. For example, if a book contains 18 chapters, the teacher cannot ask questions from all of them. They must overlook some places.

Halo effects: This indicates that the teacher is familiar with the student and has a favourable view of him based on his prior papers and writing abilities.

Question phrasing ambiguity: Sometimes essay questions are framed in such a way that students are unsure of the full implications of the questions.
