Discuss about the objectives of teacher education through distance mode

Distance education is used to support teachers’ career development. When teachers search the ways of professional promotion, aim to improve their qualities or want to be expert teachers or inspectors; shortly, when teachers need new skills, they benefit from distance education. There are various Universities from where distance education is possible and some are as under:

Kashmir University 

1)It was established in 1948 and the directorate of distance education was established in 1976.

2)The university is recognized by the University Grants Commission and Distance Education Bureau, hence all its courses are approved by UGC-DEB. 

3)The university offers 2 merit-based scholarships offered to 2 top performers, 4 research-based scholarships offered for carrying out research leading to the award of Ph.Ds./M.Phil degrees

4)The university also provides a ‘Students aid Fund’ to those who come from low-income families, but it is awarded on the basis of merit.

5)Kashmir University provides placement support to its students by organizing workshops, counselling sessions, placement drives to channelize the students into something productive.

6)University of Kashmir is providing distance education via online mode. The university offers many distance undergraduate and postgraduate courses to the students through distance learning mode.

7)The university provides both UG & PG courses, and also diploma courses to its distance learners with a considerable amount of facilities.

IGNOU

1)IGNOU is an NCTE and AICTE approved institute that offers distance learning as well as open courses for students to obtain their degrees. The B. Ed course offered at the institute is via distance learning. Despite this, it holds the same credential value as any other B. Ed degree done from other universities.

2)The Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) Programme of IGNOU aims at developing the understanding and competencies required by practising teachers for an effective teaching-learning process at the secondary stage.

3) Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) offers 2 years IGNOU B.Ed. Course as a distance mode under its School of Education (SOE).

4)For B.Ed. Course which is offered by IGNOU, the minimum duration to complete is Two (2) years. However, the maximum period which is allowed by university to get a degree is Four (4) Years for Regular and Five years for Distance Education.

5)IGNOU B.Ed. degree is acceptable in all private and government institutes, across India.
