Objectives of Rehabilitation Council of India Act 1992

  • To control the policies and programmes for training in the area of rehabilitation for people with impairments.
  • To standardize the training programmes professionals who work with people with disabilities take.
  • To set basic requirements for professionals and other persons in various categories who work with people with disabilities.
  • To uniformly control these requirements across all training institutions in the nation.
  • To honour organizations, institutes, and universities that provide master’s, bachelor’s, P.G. diploma, and certificate programmes in the field of rehabilitation for people with impairments.
  • To accept on a reciprocal basis any degree, diploma, or certificate granted by foreign colleges or institutes.
  • To advance special education and rehabilitation research.
  • To keep up the Central Rehabilitation Register for personnel and professional registration.
  • To routinely gather data from institutions in India and abroad on education and training in the area of the rehabilitation of individuals with disabilities.
  • To promote ongoing learning in the fields of rehabilitation and special education through partnerships with organizations that deal with disabilities.
  • To acknowledge vocational rehabilitation centres as resources for human resources development.
  • To register teachers of vocational training and other staff members who work in the vocational rehabilitation centres
  • To acknowledge the national institutes and premier institutions on disabilities as hubs for human resource development.
  • To register staff members employed by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment at national institutes and leading institutions on disability.
