Need and importance of special education in India
It is true that both gifted and disadvantaged children require certain conditions for their growth. Therefore, special education is important to educationists.
- Children that academically behind require specialised instruction, which necessitates special classes for them.
- Special educational facilities are needed to address the social and personal requirements of children with exceptionalities. Therefore, extra facilities help the kids realise their potential and lessen the disadvantages brought on by their peculiarities. Here, gifted youngsters are given the chance to work on their abilities. A gifted student feels a disadvantage in a typical class. With minimal effort, he performs admirably. He needs little effort to rise and maintain his position in the class. Accelerated promotions, of course, have a lot of disadvantages.

They could benefit in the long term from proper encouragement and instruction under specific educational programmes.

For the right placement of many different sorts of exceptional children, physical tests and assessments by specialists and experts including ophthalmologists, audiologists, pathologists, psychiatrists, paediatricians, neurologists, psychologists, and educational workers are required.
- Numerous support services are necessary for special schooling. For instance, those with orthopaedic disabilities need regular physical exams, occupational treatment, and physical therapy. Some special-needs kids must be maintained under continual medical observation. Children who are partly blind, hard of hearing, and blind may require periodic examinations. For certain exceptional kids, occupational and physical therapy as well as mental and psychological therapies are also required.
