Educational programs for gifted and talented students

Following are the various programmes for educating gifted children:

  • Acceleration: Acceleration gives a brilliant student the chance to advance at a speed that suits his aptitude and maturity and to finish a course of study faster than is customary. It entails moving the bright student quickly through the grades so that he can start college earlier than other students.
  • Segregation: The talented students may spend all or part of the school day in special groups. Ability grouping is often done to allow for the depth and breadth of the children’s experiences, as well as to allow the youngsters to stimulate one another.
  • Triple-Track Strategy: In American schools, the Track Plan, which introduces flexibility in the classification of the kids, is particularly well-liked. According to this plan, everyone must follow the same curriculum. In comparison to typical children, dull children cover it in a long length of time, whereas brilliant children do so in a shorter amount of time.
  • Double Promotion: This refers to receiving many promotions during the year. If a youngster excels in one class very well, he may receive a double promotion. The promotion’s goal is to put the talented student in the setting that best suits him. But occasionally, these promotions turn out to be quite bad for the kid. The child might be gifted in comparison to the other students in his previous class, but he or she might not make the same progress when he or she moves on to a class with students who have different mental and physical make-ups. This would cause the child to become mentally retarded in the new environment. Age, social maturity, and health are all elements that should be taken into consideration.
  • Special Schools: Such pupils have access to separate schools in several of the world’s most developed nations. This method has drawn criticism since it would deny a sizable percentage of these students of the leadership experience they would otherwise gain by working with other students.
  • Scholarship Programmes: All bright kids, or at least the top 5 to 15% of the appropriate age group, will be able to enjoy the best education possible thanks to the extensive programme of scholarships at all levels.
  • Special Visits: It is possible to schedule well-planned tours to laboratories, museums, and other locations.
