NCTE carries out the following duties:
- Publish the findings of surveys and research you do on various facets of teacher preparation.
- Making suggestions to the U.G.C., State and Federal universities, the federal government, and other organisations for the creation of plans and programmes in the area of teacher education.
- Coordinating and tracking the nation's progress in teacher education.
- Creating guidelines regarding the minimum requirements for applicants to jobs as teachers and educators at various levels.
- Establishing standards for every given category of training or courses in teacher education, including the minimum requirements for entrance.
