What are the basic necessities of Linguistic Communicative Approach?

 Basic necessities of Linguistic Communicative Approach are:

  • Desire and competence for learning the language. Any person who is learning a language should have a deep desire and competence for learning language. Only then he can make the proper use of the language according to his needs and requirements.
  • Learning of different forms of linguistics. A learner must study and understand the different forms of linguistics. After that, he can pick up the right one and use it at the appropriate moment in a natural way.
  • Developing skills of strategies for using the language. After learning the different forms of linguistics and picking up the right one the language learner should’ develop all skills required for learning a language. He should also have training in different strategies which could help him use the language in different situations.
  • Language is a social activity. Language makes it possible for individuals to live in society. It is the characteristics of, indeed fundamental to, the modern point of view in linguistics to regard languages as a social activity rather than as a means of individual self-expression.” In the effective use of language and speaking of language, social setting plays a very important role. The speaker should use the language suitably for the requirement of the audience. Only then he is said to have used language rightly. There are different structures. The user of the language should have a strategy in mind and then he succeeds in communicating properly.

In the communicative function of the language, the way of expression also matters a lot. No doubt what we speak is important, but equally important is how we speak that. It is because by a shift of stress from one syllable to another its meanings are changed.

Here are some examples regarding it.

In the case of a sentence, all the words contained in it are not stressed. The difference in stress changes the meaning of utterance as in the sentence:

  • Ab. Rehman is my employer

This sentence may be spoken in different ways by shifting the stress. In each way it conveys different meanings as:

  • Only A. Rehman not some one else.
  • Nothing is to deny belonging to me not yours
  • Employer
  • Nothing else than employer.

While communicating through spoken language ‘Pause plays a very important role. Wrong use of pause or lack of pause all these things make big difference in meaning
