Critically Discuss Sternberg’s Information Processing Approach

Well-known psychologist Robert J. Sternberg specialised in studying human intellect and creativity. In 1985, he put up the Triarchic hypothesis of intelligence. It is concerned with how people use information processing to carry out mental tasks. The growth of a person is a continual process and is based on their skills, according to Sternberg’s concept.

Critically Discuss Sternberg’s Information Processing Approach

Certain academics claim that Sternberg’s Triarchic hypothesis of intelligence has some drawbacks, including the following:

• According to psychologist Linda Gottfredson, the idea has disregarded a strong scientific foundation, and the evidence it is supported by is scant.
• When it comes to job expertise, some psychologists believe that practical intelligence is superfluous because the idea has been adequately investigated.
• Sometimes Sternberg’s definitions and justifications of his study have been wrong.

Even though it has several drawbacks, Sternberg’s Triarchic Theory of Intellect has been highly useful throughout the years in understanding human intelligence.
