What does Article 348 say about the use of English in India

English was permitted to be used in accordance with Article 348 of the Indian Constitution in the following contexts:

  • (A) all Supreme Court and High Court proceedings;
  • (b) authoritative texts;
  • (c) all bills or amendments moved in both Houses of Parliament;
  • (d) all Acts passed by Parliament or the State Legislatures; and
  • (e) all orders, rules, regulations, bye-laws, and all Ordinances by the President or the Governor of State, up until the Official Language Commission appointed under makes recommendations.
