Vishwa Bharti Experiment

1) It was founded by the first non-European Nobel Laureate , Rabindranath Thakur (popularly known as Tagore) in 1921.

2)Tagore’s Vishwabharti at Shantiniketan is a living symbol of his philosophy of life and education. In this educational institution, where he gave practical shape to his ideas.

3)There are four fundamental principles in Tagore’s educational philosophy; naturalism, humanism, internationalism and idealism.

4)Vishwa Bharati was established as a centre for culture with the objective of exploring the arts, language, humanities, music etc. It was also declared an institution of national importance by an Act of Parliament in 1951.

5)Vishwa Bharti is undoubtedly, a unique contribution of Tagore in the field of education. Tagore believed in all round development of an individual. He said that the curriculum should consist of subjects of study, activities and actual living. He said that only good learner can be a good teacher. 

Aims of Vishwa Bharti Experiment

1)To bring the different cultures of the east into close contact with one another.

2)To provide new approach to western science and culture.

3)To establish relationship between the east and the west by the study of their philosophy, culture, art, etc.

4)To provide education for the whole man.

5)To provide opportunities for the freedom of mind, heart and will.

6)To help them have balanced development of different aspects such as physical, moral, spiritual, intellectual etc.
