Importance of national language

In every nation, the national language holds a special place. No country is strong without its national language. It is through language that individuals become members of a community and this is important in the formation of national character. Through the mother tongue, the child has the first expression of himself and the world. However, in today’s modern world, foreign languages are increasingly used, especially in the school system. The use of a different and foreign language in the school system means superimposing a language of thought that is fully expressed in a foreign medium, which often poses a problem for learners.

Even today, most inherited education systems suffer from the influence of the colonial rulers on the school system and the education system as a whole. Therefore, the place of the national language in the development of national sentiment cannot be overemphasized.

Language is the system of communication used by a particular community ,where each

community or group has an original language of its own which often suits its environment and stage of cultural development.

It is through language that individuals become members of a community and this is important in building the national character.

Every education system places high emphasis on national language as a way of preserving the national identity of the country.

Existence of different linguistic groups as a challenge.
