Meaning and Objective of Educational Administration

The word “administration”, has the Latin root ‘minister’ which indicates services that is “work dedicated to the good of others”. 

Proper planning, organization, coordination, control, evaluation, and guidance plays a vital role in building up “Educational administration”. Like any ordinary administration, an Educational administration also quests to preserve and enhance its bond with the community.

It targets at providing proper provision, liberty and cheering to the praiseworthy educators.

The administrative authorities should understand Mass Psychology and aim at inspiring direct democracy in schools.

Educational administration helps to implement and manage educational planning, educational maintenance, educational direction, and educational supervision. 

Besides it also plays a crucial role in directing and managing “Library,School building,Office, educational activities, evaluation of individual’s performance and related progression too. 

It is concerned not only with the enhancement of children and youth but also with the growth of adults and particularly with the growth of school personnel, thereby, enabling the right pupils to achieve the right education and from the right educators at a cost, within the means of state, which would ultimately enable them to gain from their education.

To conclude, Educational Administration targets at the expansion of Education and play a key role at implementing the Educational plans in a well organised and constructive manner.

Good’s Dictionary of Education defines Educational Adminstration as “All those techniques and procedures employed in operating the educational organization in accordance with established policies”

Here are some  definitions of “Educational Administration “given by some famous personalities:

Henry Fayol, who is known as the father of Administration Process, defined “Educational Administration as a process of five elements as planning, organizing, direction, co-ordination and control”. 

Luther Gullick, a social scientist, presented a “POSDCORB” formula to present the process of educational administration. In the formula, the seven elements constitute its structure which analyse it by seven administrative functions. For example -P stands for Planning, O for Organizing, S for Staffing ,D for directing,CO for Co-ordinating,R for Reporting and B for budgeting.

Russel T. Greggs (Professor of Educational Administration) defines Educational administration as “the process of utilising appropriate materials in such a ways so as to promote effectively the development of human qualities “

 Stephen I.Knezevich defined Education Administration as “the process concerned with creating, maintaining, stimulating and unifying the energies within an educational institution towards realisation of predetermined objectives “.
